Rheumatic Factor

Related kind of Reumatic:
Rheumatic or Rheumatoid factor (RF) is a type of rheumatic arthritis. RF is an antibody that can attack to normal body tissue and resulting a damage. High level of rheumatoid factor can be caused by several autoimmune diseases (including rheumatoid arthritis) and other severe infections. RF is also present in healthy people in certain level.

The quantity of rheumatoid factor in blood can be measured in two kind of test, by Agglutination test and by Nephlometry test. This test is done on a blood sample taken from a vein.

The result of that test will recorded in titer or units: A titer count of how much the agglutination test blood sample can be diluted before RF no longer detected. A titer of 1 to 20 (1:20) means that RF can be detected when 1 part of the blood sample is diluted by 20 parts of a salt solution (saline).

Normal Standard of RF:
  • Titer: 1 to 20 or less
  • Units: 23 or less
